Job Summary:

We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Survey Technician to join our dynamic land surveying team. This in-office position is responsible for processing survey data and preparing accurate and detailed drawings, maps, and reports related to land surveying projects. The Survey
Technician will work closely with field crews, department coordinators and engineers to convert raw field data into usable documentation for a variety of surveying needs, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction layout.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Processing: Process survey field data using specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center) to convert raw field measurements into accurate survey drawings.
  • Drafting: Prepare precise, scaled, and detailed drawings of land survey results, including boundary lines, topography, easements, and infrastructure, based on field data.
  • Report Preparation: Assist in the creation of survey reports, including data summaries,
    legal descriptions, and other required documentation.
  • Coordination: Work with field team to ensure data quality, resolve discrepancies, and
    ensure that all necessary data points are collected and processed accurately.
  • Quality Control: Review survey data and drawings for completeness and accuracy before
    submission to clients.
  • GIS Integration: Assist with integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data into
    survey deliverables when necessary.
  • Document Management: Maintain organized files and records of survey data, maps, and
    drafts, ensuring easy access for future reference and compliance with company standards.
  • Client Interaction: Occasionally assist department coordinators in communicating with
    clients regarding project status, data clarification, or minor revisions.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in survey data processing software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, etc.) (preferred but not required.)
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the highest level of accuracy in survey data processing and documentation.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify discrepancies or errors in field data and work collaboratively with field teams to resolve issues.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, survey crews, and internal teams.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work efficiently.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in land surveying or related field preferred).
  • Experience: Prior experience working as a Survey Technician or in a related role (preferred but not required).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a sedentary office environment for long hours.
  • Occasional need to move or transport survey materials (e.g., computers, drafting tools).

Work Environment:

  • In-office position with regular business hours.
  • Collaborative environment working with a team of land survey professionals.
  • Occasional communication with field crews, clients, and engineers.

Position Title: Field Party Chief

Reports To: Department Coordinator, RPLS, SIT

Job Summary:

They are responsible for overseeing all aspects of survey data collection, ensuring that the work is completed accurately, efficiently, and safely. The Field Party Chief is the key point of contact with the office team for matters of in-field observations and plays a significant role in ensuring that the collected data is of the highest quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage assigned field operations, to ensure work is performed efficiently and according to company standards.
  • Oversee the setup and operation of survey equipment, including Total Stations, GPS equipment, and leveling instruments.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate field activities to meet the objectives of each surveying project.
  • Ensure that field data is collected accurately and efficiently, including boundary lines, topography, construction staking, and more.
  • Direct the survey team on proper survey techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to equipment or field procedures.
  • Coordinate with the office team to ensure that data is transferred and integrated correctly for processing and reporting.
  • Conduct quality control checks on survey data, reviewing for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with the office team, department coordinator, clients, and contractors about project progress and issues.
  • Prepare and maintain field notes, sketches, and other documentation required for final survey reports.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols and procedures are followed on the job site.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and inventory of all field equipment and tools.
  • Train, mentor, and assist less experienced survey crew members in field procedures and equipment use.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in land surveying or related field preferred).
  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles and techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions, including varying weather and terrain.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor fieldwork in varying weather conditions and rough terrain such as construction sites.
  • Regular travel to job sites, potentially requiring overnight stays.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of survey equipment.
  • Work hours may vary depending on project deadlines, with potential extended hours during peak times.
